Description
This Yarn Art is a one-of-a-kind art created by the indigenous Huichol people of Nayarit, Mexico. It is known as Nierikas and made with colored yarns applied using a natural adhesive mixture of beeswax and resin over a wooden board representing the visions of the Huichol shamans during the ritual ceremonies.
There is an extensive description on the back written by the Huichol artist.
The description: “This art expresses the meaning of all these offerings. First of all, there is a sacred Jicara that is the Mother of Nature. The cornfields of colored corn, the arrow with a feather, and the candle are in the Jicara as offerings. The peyote is the symbol of the sacred Gods.”
NOTE: Please keep in mind that this art was covered and taped with plastic for protection, so there are some sticky parts on the back.
