Description
This Yarn Art is a one-of-a-kind art created by the indigenous Huichol people of Nayarit, Mexico. It is known as Nierikas and made with colored yarns applied using a natural adhesive mixture of beeswax and resin over a wooden board representing the visions of the Huichol shamans during the ritual ceremonies.
There is an extensive description on the back written by the Huichol artist.
The description: “This is a ceremonial center with some candles and peyotes. These things are sacred to gods and the indigenous people who carry the Huichol tradition. All these things are used the gods to bless the customs and the shaman blesses the peyote and the party. The deer is sacrificed to bless things with their blood and thus, the shaman is able to do the ritual.”
